This region* of Kansas encompasses the northeastern parts of the state, including the following counties: Atchison, Brown, Clay, Douglas, Dickinson, Doniphan, Geary, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Leavenworth, Miami, Marshall, Nemaha, Pottawatomie, Riley, Shawnee, Wabaunsee, Washington, Wyandotte.

Various types of camping facilities are available, including both free and pay campsites, at state parks, wildlife areas, state fishing lakes, and commercial campgrounds.
