Dornwood Park is a 110-acre city park and nature preserve located in southeast Topeka. The park offers a variety of public nature trails that are popular with both hikers and cyclists.
The 7-mile Dornwood Park Trail is accessible from a trailhead on SE 25th Street, east of California Avenue. The trail meanders along Deer Creek in heavily-forested, rolling terrain, offering some steep rocky climbs, descents, and switchbacks, as well as some challenging technical singletrack and some flat, smooth, and fast areas.
Near the trailhead the remnants of old stone dairy buildings can be seen. On the south side of the park, trails also wind through wide open prairie grasses. On the northwest side of the park the trail rolls along high banks above Deer Creek.
The Dornwood Park trails were built and are maintained by volunteers from the Kansas Trails Council.
