A small rocky stream crossing on the mountain bike trails at Hillsdale Lake. This was during a fairly wet Spring, so there was quite a bit of water flowing. Later in the year, this stream is likely to be smaller and slower. | |
This plaque at Lone Elm Park near Olathe, KS shows that the Santa Fe Trail, Oregon Trail, and California Trail all passed through this site. Lone Elm Park was originally a famous campground during settlement of the west. Today, a small nature park with a couple miles of trails occupies the site. | |
This is typical of a lot of the trails on the south side of Hillsdale Lake -- a winding path through grassland and cedars. This is perhaps smoother than most ... the trails get a lot of horse traffic, so some of it is pretty rough, and gets muddy in a few places. But good riding, for the most part. | |
Nowhere, KS was originally a stop on the Leavenworth, Lawrence and Fort Gibson railroad, and today the Midland Railway runs on these tracks. As far as I can tell, this is all that's left of the town. So this is a literal picture of "the middle of nowhere".
