The mission of Prairie Travelers is to support the establishment of an inter-connected trails network in the state of Kansas by preserving railroad corridors through interim trail use for the use and enjoyment of everyone. The organization is the result of the cooperative effort of citizens, local trail groups, and outdoor enthusiasts dedicated to expanding recreation opportunities in the state of Kansas.
Prairie Travelers is responsible for development of the Prairie Sunset Trail between Goddard and Garden Plain, Kansas, the first mile of which opened in July 2007.
Prairie Travelers proposes to establish a network of linear trails and other recreational trails in Kansas. Just imagine a network of interconnecting trails in Kansas available to anyone for walking, bicycling, jogging, and horseback riding. You would discover a world of wide-open skies, rolling prairie, wildflowers, forests, and wildlife. Envision traveling from town to town, exploring your Kansas natural and historical heritage. With your help, this and more can be realized.
