The Central Iowa Trail Association creates and maintains unpaved, shared-use trails in and around Des Moines, Iowa. CITA was formed in 1996 in response to trail conflicts in Browns Woods in West Des Moines, Iowa. The non-profit organization has worked since that time to educate central Iowans on the value proposition of sustainable, shared singletrack.
As an International Mountain Bike Association affiliate, CITA's central purpose is the world-class design, construction and maintenance of trails in partnership with city, county, state and private landowners. CITA also educates land managers and trail users through advocacy and outreach programs, including a chapter of the National Mountain Bike Patrol.
