The Lewis and Clark Bicycle Trail Route follows in the footsteps of the Corps of Discovery, led by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, along a 4,686-mile route, retracing the historic 1804-1806 journey to explore the lands of the Louisiana Purchase and the vast American West.
Though the original expedition travelled primarily by water, along the Missouri River and the Columbia River, the bicycle route parallels the rivers on paved roads, gravel roads, bike paths, and rail-trails.
The route extends from Hartford, Illinois, runs through Missouri, catches just a sliver of northeastern Kansas, and runs through Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, Idaho, and Washington state.
