Kick Ya Butt is a three-day cycling/camping event in the beautiful mountains of Southeastern Oklahoma. There are rides on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The signature ride on Saturday is 85 miles with 8500 feet of climbing. Camping is at Winding Stair Mountain campground in the Ouachita National Forest.
This ride can be extremely challenging. The signature ride on Saturday takes riders along the Talimena Scenic Drive to Talihina, then crosses the Kiamichis and down into Honobia...up over the Kiamichis again past Three Sticks Monument and back up on to the TSD. A triple or compact drive equipped bike is pretty much a necessity for this ride as grades on the tougher climbs approach and in places exceed 13%.
Winding Stair Mountain campsite has no water so campers need to bring a good supply, for drinking, cooking, and bathing. Sites can easily accomodate two tents. Firewood is abundant but requires foraging in some very rough country. A good supply of firewood is a big plus. This ride is all about riding an extreme challenge, and about the camraderie of the camping experience. It has some of the most beautiful scenery you are ever likely see on a ride.
