The Flint Hills Death Ride is one of the most challenging one-day mountain biking events in the country, with 70-ish miles of OFF ROAD riding.
No complainers, whiners, or crybabies allowed! This event is not for the weak at heart. If you are not physically and, most of all, mentally fit do not even bother coming to Madison, Kansas. This ride is only for the most insane, grueling, determined, excited, and motivated cyclists in the country.
Over 5,000 vertical feet of climbing. The roads are ROUGH! During our typical year we shred 10 tires on the support cars. Bikes won't flat any more than your typical mountain bike ride, but the roads are rough enough that by the end of the day you'll be begging to get off your bike.
Note from the ride directors: "I'm sad to report that FHDR 2011 is cancelled. This was a really difficult decision for the ride directors to make. We believe in the FHDR and will be regrouping to see what we need to do to bring it back in 2012. We appreciate everyone's support, patience and understanding."
Note from the ride directors: As of January 2012, the Flint Hills Death Ride web site is no longer available. It is not know when, or if, this seminal Kansas event will return.
