Santa Fe Trails Bicycle and Coffee Shop presents their annual “Late Night Under The Lights” series of training races, beginning this week:
The dates this year are May 29, June 26, July 10, and July 24, with a make-up date of August 7 if rain forces cancellation of a race.
The location is the Warren Middle School in Leavenworth. Kids race free! Adults are $15 for one day or $35 for the series. All participants must wear a helmet. These are “Training Races”. Children race between one and four laps depending on their ages. Adults race three races each evening. Races for adults are “miss and out”, “Win and Out” and “Points races”.
Registration is at 6:15pm. Kids race at 6:30pm, and adults race at 7:30pm.
Matt Nowak has a preview of the series: Kids bicycling series is a great collaboration:
I cannot say too much good about how nice it is that our local bicycle shop and the Leavenworth Parks & Rec Department organizes and finds sponsors for this annual kids’ racing series. The kids benefit the most because they are developing great bike riding skills in the process. I really believe in having kids race to develop great biking skills. As for the adults, each evening also includes adult races. Technically, these are training races for the adults. Practically speaking, that means that the cost is much less than it would be if it were an actual sanctioned racing series. We actually do have quite a few adults come out to race and sometimes have enjoyed very highly rated European or British racers join the fun.
I think that this is another example of how our local businesses and the Parks & Rec Department are doing great things for the families in the Leavenworth area.
If you live in the area, be sure to join in the fun!
