Salina Bicycle Advocacy Group Public Meeting

Sorry about the late notice, but there’s a public meeting tonight in Salina, Kansas. The following note is from Phil Black, who’s moderating the discussion:

I hope people will consider attending the second Salina Bicycle Advocacy Group meeting. I have confirmations of attendance from two City Commissioners, one County Commissioner, Reps from the City, the School District, the Highway Patrol, and the Saline County Sheriff’s Department. The Salina Police Department is still considering as is Congressman’s Huelskamp’s office.

Our goal is to move toward Salina and Saline County becoming “bike, pedestrian, and, yes, motorist friendly.” We then want to take a second step and consider what it would take for the community to be proud of that distinction. This is not to be an adversarial meeting and as I am moderating I will prevent that from happening. The more people intested and in attendance, the better!

The meeting is taking place on Wednesday, July 18th, 6:30pm at Moka’s Bakery & Bistro (109 N Santa Fe Ave, Salina, KS 67401, 785-404-6941). All are welcome to attend and participate.

The “Salina Bicycle Advocacy Group” is a “citizen-based unbrella group representing all types of riders in the Salina area. We are adopting a model that is non-adversarial. Of course, there are already many groups, and we don’t mean to diminish the good work they are doing. We just felt disorganized between the roadies, the off road guys, the commuters, the cruisers, etc. and felt we needed to establish one voice.”

If you’re interested in making Salina more friendly to all forms of transportation, this is a great chance to get involved!
