The Riley County Police Department has launched a new uniformed bicycle patrol unit, according to the Capital-Journal:
An RCPD news release said the unit will focus on community policing and crime prevention. It will consist of two uniformed bike operators who will patrol selected portions of Manhattan and will work on special projects in high crime areas.
In addition to crime prevention efforts, the bike unit will be more visible and accessible to the public, RCPD says. The unit will make public contacts and promote a more open and transparent relationship between police and the public.
The unit consists of two uniformed bicycle operators, Brian Johnson and Rick Deutsch.
